Marshmallow

This extremely medicinal plant has spread from the eastern Mediterranean to America and Asia. In our country, it can be found most often near rivers, especially the Danube, Sava and Tisza, or river sediments that abound in these rivers. It belongs to the genus Mallow and is named after a beautiful white flower. We must mention that the medicinal part of this plant is the root, which contains active substances, namely: mucus 35 to 40%, pectin, starch, sucrose, asparagine, beatin, etc. The most healing ingredient is the mucus contained in this root, and it is most abundant in October, when it is recommended to remove it. Marshmallow mucus has a beneficial effect in the treatment of respiratory infections and diarrhea.
